The Way

Actually this is going to sound corny but after seeing the movie 'The Way' I have decided to make a religious pilgrimage of my own. In four years I plan to over the summer take on the El Camino de Santiago. Now while some do The Way for tourists reasons or for fun. I'm doing it for the religious aspect of it. That and the scenery is beautiful. But the religious aspect of it is really why I'm planning to do this. Ever had that feeling deep down that you are meant to do this one thing? That's how I feel. I don't feel like this is a whim. I feel like this is something that God wants me to do. This maybe a game changer for me. I feel as if this is a personal thing I need to do. I'm doing it in four years because I've got to plan this. Maybe you think I sound stupid or crazy. Maybe you think that this IS a silly whim that is absolutely pointless. But I will vehemently disagree.

These are the signs of the pilgrim traveler.

The blue dots connected by green lines is the route I plan to take. The only reason I'm starting in Paris is the fact that certain route goes through Orleans. I love St. Joan of Arc and have always wanted to go to Orleans.

  1. Good on ya! The story behind Santiago de Compestela has always given me inexplicable chills. At the very least, I must now watch The Way myself.

Interestingly, one of the early Sharpe novels of Bernard Cornwell (in fact, the first if I'm not mistaken) centers around St. James and the Cathedral there. The book (and, in particular, the cynical hero Richard Sharpe) poo-poo's the spiritual aspect....but not quite completely.

I shall watch your future perambulations with considerable interest.....
